BLOOM

春先の庭に集まる淡く色とりどりの光たちのような、しなやかで少し強引なエネルギー…
自分の内側から、溢れそうな、生まれ育ちたがっている、生きる力のようなもの…造形にすると女性のシルエットのようでもあり開花する蕾のようでもあるその様子のような。そんな今回の作品たち。
身のこなしやそれを取り巻く空間にはどこか「和」のイメージも感じて、これまでとは違う色彩を使った表現にもチャレンジしています。

BLOOM series / 2016

I focused on and tried to express a supple but forcible energy like colourful lights of a garden in spring. I found out that the vitality is about to be born and overflowing from my mind. The sense is like feminine strength and softness, and I felt that its carriage is somehow related to ”和”(Wa), which means harmony in Japanese. These concepts led me to employ new colours for my works.

When I make the shapes of creatures with stone clay and polish them, I get a moment of feeling of organic lives. Then I polish them more and complete the process of producing.

I believe that this is a great opportunity to see my works under the sunshine which brings different tastes throughout the day.

BLOOM

白くやわらかなラインと曲面は一見シンプルでなめらかですが、
実は複雑で、生命感が溢れる感触を指先と手のひらで確かめながら、
抱きかかえるように作り上げていきます。

そうした作業を繰り返す中で、たとえば生き物として存在するときの
彼の（彼女の）ストーリーもより鮮明になっていき、造形作品でありながら
物語性の高い空間イメージを漂わせる独特な存在感が生まれ、
膨らんでいくのを感じています。

そしていつも、これらの作品には共通して「幸せ」や「和み」といった、
人の柔らかい心を温める何かが宿るような気がしていました。

BLOOMシリーズではこうした「命のような」と「幸せな」といったイメージを大切にしつつも、
さらに強く柔らかい何かが「湧き出る」、「溢れる」といった動的なマインドのイメージを
この静的な立体造形の表現に求めた新たなチャレンジです。

内から溢れ出しコントロールしきれない色々な感情や、新しく生まれたい、
と強く願う願望のようなものが充満する内側に目を向け、
そのはじける瞬間（あるいは弾ける寸前）の感覚をトリガーに作品のイメージを模索しました。

たとえば、エネルギーを溜め込んだ蕾や新芽の異様さはとても色気があり、
時にグロテスクでまた美しく、魅力的に感じるような。
そんな強引で、しなやかなエネルギーの気配が空間に溢れ出し、
漂い、また刺激する。そんな風景を描こうとしたようにも思えます。

The white colour and soft line of those sculptures look simple and smooth.
However, this can be done by only Yuco Maruo because the artist produces
works as if she were holding new lives in her hand to feel their vitality. While
she repeats this process, the stories regarding each creature come to her
mind, and this gives the sculptures an original presence. According to Maruo,
something warms people’s hearts like happiness and gives them a sense of ease.

In addition to this ‘liveliness’ and ‘happiness’, Maruo expresses the energy of
something strong and soft which ‘springs from someone’s mind’ or ‘overflows’
in her static sculptures for BLOOM series.

Maruo’s various emotions which cannot be controlled and strong desires
newly born in her mind are the source of her creativity. She focuses on the
moment that those emotions and energies are coming out or about to flare.
For example, the artist believes there is a kind of sensuality in the peculiar
power of flower buds and sprouts filled with the energy to bloom.
This strong but lithe energy overflows and floats to the space, and it stimulates us.
She tries to capture this atmosphere and express it with her sculptures.
